3M MicroTouch Integration
It is possible to convert an existing LCD display into a touch screen by integrating a 3M MicroTouch Capacative touch sensor and controller.The process requires the removal of the monitor casing, the bonding of the touch sensor to the TFT panel and the installation and connection of the touch screen controller.

You will require the following parts:
● USB or serial cable to connect the controller to the PC
● Double-sided touch sensor mounting tape

There are certain factors to consider before attempting touch screen integration.
Compatibility with the LCD Display
Not all LCD displays can accommodate a sensor and controller, so it is necessary to check with the manufacturer if the model you wish to convert is compatible. Many LCD display data-sheets state if the monitor can be converted to touch or not (see below).
The Monitor Manufacturer´s Warranty
You may be voiding the LCD display´s warranty by opening the casing. Check with the monitor manufacturer´s local authorized agent first.
The Quantity of Displays to Be Converted
As there is a minimum order quantity (MOQ) for touch sensors, you will need to be converting a large quantity of displays. The MOQ can be 20, 50 or 100 units, depending on the sensor part no. although smaller quantities can be supplied at more expensive sample pricing.
Damage to the LCD Display
Opening the monitors casing and installing the touch screen components can damage the display´s electronics. The work should only be conducted by an experienced monitor engineer.
Touch Sensor and Controller Warranty
Although the touch sensor and controller are covered by a 5-year warranty for regular usage, the warranty does not cover any damage incurred during installation. These are sensitive electronic components and the integrator should be aware that they are installing them at their own risk.

TouchPen
TouchPen supports both finger touch and pen input on a ClearTek™ sensor. The tethered stylus supports handwriting recognition, signature and data capture, annotation, and gloved-hand use. With TouchPen you can select from dense menus or work with detailed images too small to touch with a finger. A hand resting on the screen while writing is ignored through capacitive digitizer technology, which intelligently distinguishes between pen and finger touch. Vandal Proof Sensors
ToughTouch is a ClearTek™ sensor with a layer of strengthened glass laminated to the back. ToughTouch provides increased impact-resistance for flat sensors in industrial, unattended, or vandal-prone environments. Privacy Sensors
Privacy sensors employ a light-filter that ensures that only the user directly in front of the screen can read the information displayed - to any bystanders the screen appears as black. Waterproof Touch Screens
For particularly harsh environments, such as controlling equipment on oil rigs or factory shop-floors, we can supply IP66 rated displays. These are panel-mounted touch screens sealed into a housing which is impervious to the ingress of water or other liquids.Daylight Touch Screens
For outdoor applications such as parking meters, telephone kiosks or portable field equipment, we supply touch screens integrated with a high-brightness, (up to 2,000 cd/m2), LCD panel that is viewable under direct sunlight.Sizes available range from 6.4" up to 21".
